Rafel Scroggins

April 12, 1942 - January 28, 2010

Rafel Scroggins born April 12, 1942 in Dallas, Texas to the late Melvin and Rebecca Scroggins was taken home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2010 in Tucson, Arizona. He was one of eleven children born to this union.

Rafel leaves several siblings to cherish his memory: David Scroggins of Safford, AZ, Jerry Scroggins of Los Angeles, CA, Herbert Scroggins of Savannah, GA, Willie Earl Scroggins of Safford, AZ, Karen High of San Diego, CA, Sheila Irvin of Safford, AZ, Mildred Scroggins, Merle Scroggins and Bob Scroggins all of Phoenix, AZ.

Rafel leaves a legacy of three surviving sons: Rafael Scroggins, Jr. of San Francisco, CA, Derek Scroggins of Sacramento, CA, and Zeke Scroggins of Lexington, KY, two grandchildren: Seth and Jada Scroggins of Sacramento, CA. Rafel also leaves behind Colleen Scroggins of Pebble Beach, CA, and Thelma Brandon-Davis of Safford, AZ and a host of adoring relatives, cherished friends, and church and family members whom he loved.

Rafel attended the A-Mountain Church of God in Christ in Tucson and was very active in the church community. He was very spirit filled and passionate about his church and the work of the Lord, achieving the title of Ordained Deacon on February 1, 1998. He studied the Bible daily and enjoyed spreading the Lord’s word to all he encountered and would eagerly pray for everyone. He always shared a positive word of encouragement, even when he was ill.

Rafel worked in the area of drilling and soil testing for the mining operations, along with a few other jobs, before becoming a high power electrician for the City of Tucson for over 30 years. Rafel was a very outgoing person and was well liked by his employer and co-workers. His enthusiasm for hard work did not stop when he retired in 2004. He made it a point to spend time helping his community and fellow congregational members. He did not know a stranger and has many dear friends throughout the communities of Tucson, Safford, and Phoenix, AZ to mourn his passing.

Deacon Scroggins, without a doubt—“All Minds Are Clear”—you will be truly and sincerely missed!
